The moment I knew that We The Kings, The Maine and NeverShoutNever were going to have a show in the Philippines, I literally jumped and screamed my lungs out. I mean, I love those bands! So I was really happy that they were coming here altogether. It was like a perfect package. But out of those three bands, there was one band that really stood out for me. I love them all but personally, my favorite among them is The Maine.
I must admit that I haven’t been a long-time fan. I only found out about them in mid-2009, through a blogging site called Tumblr. A lot of the people I follow listen to them, so I thought, why not give them a try? So I did.
I could remember the first time I listened to them. “Give Me Anything” was the first The Maine song I heard. I loved it in an instant! And that was the moment that I fell in love. I fell in love with the voice of their lead vocalist. I fell in love with how each of them played their instruments and how their music made a perfect harmony. I fell in love with their lyrics and the way they wrote them. I fell in love with how their songs are so easy to relate with. I fell in love with how their songs, in one way or another, can make you realize and teach you different things. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE MAINE. That’s where it started. I listened to their songs, viewed their videos on YouTube, researched about them on Wikipedia, followed each one of them on Twitter, and just tried to know more about the band.
There was this one time when they held a 24-hour livestream to launch their new album, Black & White. I tried my best to stay up until dawn to watch the entirety of that livestream, but I failed. I woke up with my laptop beside me, and saw that the livestream was still ongoing. What they did was amazing and it deserves so much praise. I admire them so much for staying awake one whole day for the fans. After that moment, my respect for John, Kennedy, Garrett, Jared and Pat multiplied a hundred, even a million times.
December 9, 2010. That was the day that their Philippine shows were finally confirmed. @themaine tweeted that they posted new tour dates on their site and that there were Philippine dates on their tour. So it was official. I became excited and enthusiastic all over again knowing that they’re coming here for real. And I knew that I just had to be there. I didn’t mind flying all the way from Davao, spending money on plane tickets. I didn’t mind it at all. All I knew was that I love this band so much and I would do anything just to see them perform live.
Honestly, I could go on and on typing down reasons why I have so much love for this band. I know that there are a lot of other fans who could profess their love for The Maine. I couldn’t say that I am more deserving to win this than them. I couldn’t say that I’m the biggest fan among all of them. I couldn’t say that I have known The Maine longer than them.
But I could say this: I might not be the most deserving one, I might not be the biggest fan, I might not be the one who knew this band the longest, but I know it in my heart that I will support The Maine no matter what happens, good or bad. And if I’d be a given a chance to meet them, it will really be everything I could ask for -- everything I ask for and just a little bit more. |
